Stumbling upon this sinker cypress burl slab in a local woodworking shop, I instantly knew just how to use this beautiful local treasure. I knew I wanted to test my hands at a circular table build, but also with a large epoxy pour to engulf this slab of wood. The design concept was to make the epoxy have the image of murky water to keep the concept of cypress being submerged for so long. Using a metallic pigment and strategic approaches to the pour, this resembles the idea of water surrounding this slab suspended in space.
Sinker Cypress is a local wood sourced from the swamps of Louisiana, logs that were hand cut years ago that have rested in the murky waters. That fact, mixed with the rare opportunity of having a burl cut as well, this table top shines in any entry space for display!
